Mobile Headlight Restoration in Charlotte
Foggy headlights make a car look older and make it harder to see at night. Most of the time, they don't need replacing.
Why headlights turn yellow and foggy
Headlight lenses are plastic with a thin protective layer from the factory. Years of sun break that layer down, and once it fails the lens oxidizes, turning yellow, cloudy, and rough to the touch. Cars parked outside all day around Charlotte get it worst.
It's more than looks. Foggy lenses cut down how much light reaches the road, so night driving and rainy commutes get harder. The good news is the damage is almost always on the outside of the lens, so you don't need new headlights.
Store-bought kits and toothpaste tricks usually look better for a few weeks, then the haze comes right back because the damaged layer is still there. We sand it all the way off, polish the lens back to clear, and protect it so it stays that way.
It's fully mobile and takes about an hour. We do it in your driveway or parking lot anywhere around Charlotte.
What's included in headlight restoration
- Both headlight lenses restored
- Paint and trim around the lights taped off and protected
- Multi-stage wet sanding to remove the yellowed, oxidized layer
- Machine compounding and polishing for full clarity
- UV protective coating to help keep them clear
- Lenses wiped down and inspected before we leave
Headlights done right on the car. Nothing gets removed or opened up.
Our mobile headlight restoration process
No quick kit from the parts store. Every lens goes through the same steps.
Tape off
We tape around each headlight so the paint and trim are protected from sanding.
Wet sand
Coarse wet sanding cuts through the yellow, oxidized layer. You'll see the old haze come off in the slurry.
Refine
We step through finer and finer grits until the deeper sanding marks are gone.
Compound
A machine polisher and compound remove the fine sanding haze.
Polish
A final polish brings the lens back to clear and glossy.
Protect
A UV protective coating goes on last so the lenses stay clear longer.
Professional restoration vs a store-bought kit
Kits are cheap for a reason. Here's the difference.
Our headlight restoration
- Oxidized layer fully sanded off
- Machine polished for real clarity
- UV protective coating applied
- About an hour, done in your driveway
Typical DIY kit
- Light sanding that leaves some haze behind
- Hand polishing that can't reach full clarity
- Little or no lasting UV protection
- Haze often returns in weeks

What our customers say
★★★★★50+ five-star reviews on GoogleCan't say enough about the excellent job Tilden did on my headlights. He restored them back to how they looked when I first purchased my car. Exceptional service and quality.
Tilden did a great job on our vehicle. It hadn’t been detailed in along time (yrs) the car looked so good and love the fact that he comes to you. Tilden is a hard worker, answers all my questions and loves what he is doing which lets me know he will do a good job. Didn’t disappoint , highly recommend!
Tilden worked his magic, both interior and exterior, on my husband's Homda Passport - which hasn't seen a car wash or vacuum in a LONG time. When Tilden was done, the car looked as if it had been driven to our home directly from the showroom floor. We are definitely repeat customers, and I highly recommend Tilden and the outstanding service he provides. He'll take care of your vehicle (car, boat, whatever) as if it's his own. A+++++
Tilden was very courteous, right on time for appointment and did a great job. I would call him again in the future.
Mobile headlight restoration questions
Can every headlight be restored?
Not always. If there's damage or moisture inside the housing, restoring the outside won't fix it. Send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly.
How long does headlight restoration take?
Usually about an hour for a pair, depending on how bad the oxidation is.
Why do headlights turn yellow?
The plastic lenses have a protective layer that breaks down under UV light. Once it fails, the surface oxidizes and turns yellow and cloudy. Daily sun exposure speeds it up.
Will it help me see better at night?
Yes. Clearing the haze lets more light through the lens, so the road ahead is noticeably brighter.
How long will my headlights stay clear?
Much longer than a kit, since we remove the damaged layer completely and protect the lens. Sun exposure is the biggest factor, so garaged cars hold up best.
How do I keep them clear?
Park in shade when you can, and keep them protected. A quick coat of sealant every month or two helps a lot. We'll tell you what to use.
Do you remove the headlights?
No. Everything is done with the headlights on the car. We just tape off the paint around them.
Do you need water or power?
No. We bring our own water and power, so all we need is access to the car.
Do you come to me?
Yes. We're fully mobile and bring our own water and power, so we come to your home, office, or apartment lot anywhere around Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, Rock Hill, Huntersville, Kannapolis, Mooresville, Indian Trail, Monroe, Fort Mill, Cornelius, Matthews, and Mint Hill. See all our service areas.
Can I pair this with another service?
Yes, and bundling saves you money. Most people pair it with a Wash and Wax, but it also goes well with Full Interior Detail, Mini Interior Detail, Premium Wash, Paint Correction, Ceramic Coating, Engine Cleaning, and Paint Overspray Removal. Book two or more services together and we'll take some off the total.
